A match between East Cheshire SFL champions Cheadle and cup winners Wilmslow ended all square after Wilmslow benefited from four penalty kicks.

After Cheadle raced into a 12th-minute 3-0 lead, Wilmslow had a throw. It was thrown into the area where Tom Brookes was pushed in the back and the referee pointed to the spot.

Wilmslow Town’s Under-14s held their nerve in a shoot-out to win the prestigious Keele International Cup at the weekend.

The Town team beat the Trinidad Lions Under-14s in a penalty shoot-out after a 3-3 draw in the final.

Alderley United Under-14s finished their season with a fantastic win at the Reddish Vulcans Junior Champions League tournament.

On one of the hottest days of the year, the boys battled through the heat and eight gruelling qualifying rounds to meet hosts Reddish Vulcans in the semi-final.

Alderley Edge hot shot Alex Read has been selected for the English Independent Schools’ Football Association’s Under-14 team.

Alex, 13, has scored 23 goals from midfield for the Manchester Grammar School Under-13 side and will step into the higher level for England ISFA side.

Wilmslow High School’s Year Seven footballer’s fantastic season continues as they have reached the last eight of the National English Schools’ FA Cup, from an original entry of some 658 schools.

The Under-12 boys from the Holly Road school won their seventh-round tie against Liverpool’s St Francis Xavier College, with goals from Alex Jackson and Miles Fenton seeing them through.

Wilmslow High School’s Year Nine footballers have reached the last 16 of the English Schools’ Premier League Cup.

The Under-14 lads from the Holly Road school won their sixth-round tie against Liverpool’s Cardinal Heenan High School, with goals from Pete Boyle, Olly Ford and a Jamie Frost brace seeing them through.

Styal sluggish in first-day defeat

Styal's opening Cheshire League game of the season ended in a 4-0 home defeat to Middlewich.

Both teams had their chances in a fairly even first 45 minutes. Garvey was denied by a flying save by the Middlewich keeper, Barnes also coming close for Styal.

Young footballers were able to see where the superstars train when Wilmslow Junior Sports Under 12 Colts held their annual presentation after a trip to Manchester United’s training ground at Carrington.

The lads enjoyed a VIP tour before their medal presentation for last season.

Wilmslow Town U18s went out on a high, in their last competitive game before the players go off to university.

The Town team had all to play for in their game against Altrincham Juniors, as whoever won would become champions of Timperley and District Youth League Division One.

The first team lost 2-0 at Garswood United while the reserves were beaten 3-0 at home by Poynton reserves.
