Lindow limber up for new season

Lindow Cricket Club is inviting young players to prepare for the new season by coming along to winter net sessions at Club AZ at Alderley Park.

The nets are being held on Sundays at 4 pm with separate group coaching sessions for school years three and four, years five and six and years seven and eight.

Wilmslow Cricket Club recently held their 65th annual dinner and awards evening in a memorable night at the Pinewood Hotel.

More than 100 people attended the event which included a meal, the presentation of awards and a raffle.

Hillcrest Grammar School fast bowling spearhead Katie Haszeldine has won the Cheshire under-15 girls seasonal bowling award.

The 14-year-old from Chapel Road, Alderley Edge, took 14 wickets in nine games playing for Cheshire under-15s.

Storm clouds and the visitors to Rectory Field conspired against Wilmslow as Capenhurst posted a challenging target of 133 after being invited to bat.

Batting first, they declared on 208-9, largely thanks to an unbeaten century by Joey Unsworth, who carried his bat for 118 not out.

In a dramatic finale to the Cheshire Premier League season last Saturday, Edge survived by staging a remarkable comeback against Macclesfield just when it looked like they would be relegated.

Edge batted first on a wicket that provided considerable help to the bowlers all afternoon and meant that large totals were unlikely and runs would be at a premium.

It was another vital game for Alderley Edge in the Cheshire Premier League last Saturday as they battle against relegation and visited the team at the bottom of the league, Oulton Park, in a crucial game that both sides were determined to win.

Edge batted first and got off to a good start as Mark Currie and Alan Day got the visitors up to 50 for the first wicket, scoring at five runs per over.

Meanwhile the second XI drew against Audlem. Bowling first, Wayfarers spooned several chances and, as a result they were always behind the game despite Matt Ladd’s fine effort of 4-56.

The bubble burst for resurgent Wilmslow CC as league leaders Holmes Chapel handed out a lesson.

A defiant 58 from Toby Rowe, in addition to a four-wicket haul were the positives but 109 all out in less than 26 overs allowed Chapel to win by six wickets.

Edge off the bottom

Alderley Edge have played the last two Saturdays against the team that on the morning of the match was leading the Premier League with Alderley firmly rooted to bottom spot.

The combined points total over those two games has gone Edge’s way, by 40 points to 15after the Moss Lane side thrashed Chester Boughton Hall by an emphatic margin.
