BOWLS: THE prestigious Cheshire Merit title will stay at the Lloyds Hotel after a great win for their star Matt Gilmore.
Having seen club colleague Lee Fletcher win last year’s final, this year’s match at Holmes Chapel saw Gilmore defeat Wharton Cons’ Danny Nixon 21-18.
On the way to the final, he had beaten another Lloyds star, Dave Phillips, 21-13 and past winner Glynn Cookson 21-19 in the last four.
The win qualifies Gilmore for the All England Senior Merit at the Northern Club in Crosby next month.
In division one of the Sale and District League Fallowfield and Roebuck took full advantage of home greens, each topping 200 chalks.
Cringlewood, having won a rearranged game at the weekend, convincingly won away at Bowling Green and moved up two places in the league table as a result.
Levenshulme had a bye but now have a continuous run to the end of season whereas Fallowfield have a bye to come.
In division two Longsight remain top – but only just – as convincing wins for Carrington and South West moved both above Partington, with Carrington only three chalks behind Longsight.
There were no changes in the lower places despite a convincing win by Nursery away at Sale Cons.
