Ashton-on-Mersey lady captain Shirley Dowson ended her year in style by presenting a cheque for £2,200 to her chosen charity of Motor Neurone Disease.

A busy year saw a variety of events such as a fashion show, afternoon teas, raffles and a Christmas Fair helping to raise funds.

Shirley chose the organisation in memory of her late friend, Monica Spence, who died from the illness.

Ashton-on-Mersey’s men played a singles Stableford and Alan Booth posted 45 points to finish well clear of the rest.

Mersey ladies played a lady captain’s souvenir Stableford and Ruth Hartley led in with 26 points.

A pairs Stableford at Sale saw T Taylor and J Huddlestone in charge after winning a cpo on 35 points from D Grant and C Byrne, A Rayer and J Campion and T Blanthorn and C Knowles

Denton Golf Club captains Garry Bennell and Sandra Marston will be hosting a charity mixed am am at their club on Friday, May 7.

Funds will be going to the Salvation Army and the Emmaus organisation, which offers support for homeless people.
