Search for a Jesus Christ Superstar: Andrew Lloyd Webber to hold latest TV talent show auditions in Manchester

Danielle Hope's dream cam true when she landed the role of Dorothy in the Wizard of Oz

Budding stars of stage and screen will have a chance to follow in TV talent show winner Danielle Hope's footsteps when Andrew Lloyd Webber auditions for Jesus Christ Superstar in Manchester.

Danielle, 18, from Urmston, landed the lead role of Dorothy in Lord Webber's production of the Wizard of Oz when she won the public vote in the last series of his TV talent show.

This time the impresario is looking for a new star to play the lead role in Jesus Christ Superstar and TV bosses have not ruled out casting a woman.

Andrew Lloyd Webber will lead the hunt for someone to fill the role in his new ITV show, after four series at the BBC.

Auditions will take place in London, Dublin, Belfast, Manchester, Glasgow and Cardiff, with the most promising new talent performing on stage in front of Lloyd Webber and a panel of judges.

The winner will have a lead role in an arena tour of the rock opera, which will open at London's O2 Arena.

A source close to Lloyd Webber said plans to cast a woman in the role first performed by Deep Purple frontman Ian Gillan were "being discussed".

The part has been played by singers including Paul Nicholas, John Farnham and Sebastian Bach and has been played by a woman before - US rapper Peaches did a one-woman version of the show in 2010.

Shame he is moving to ITV.

They will just "X factor" it and lose a lot of the people that watched this kind of show on the BBC who were 40 upwards.

Also an hour long show will be dragged out to 90 minutes or so with the extensive advert breaks that ITV have and before anyone says otherwise advert breaks in the last few years have got gradually longer and more frequent in shows.

ITV claim they arent showing any more however have programme trailers which dont get counted but to a viewer equate to the same thing which is a break in the show they are watching.

"Search for a Jesus Christ Superstar?" It's Frank Gallagher from Shameless.
