LACROSSE: Stockport completed a double with
victory in the Senior Flags final.
The North of England League Premier Division champions beat Heaton
Mersey 14-10 at Rochdale.
Co-captains Paul Fullerton and Chris Bland led from the front for
Stockport with hat-tricks, while James Morris (2) Owen Jones (2),
Richard Wilson (2), Keith Gosnay and Thomas Gosnay were also on the
scoresheet.
Midfielder Sam Dunwoodie hit a hat-trick for Mersey, Chris
Battersby and Dan Heighway grabbed doubles, with Andy Ellison,
American attacker Matt Florio and Steve Grace also on the
mark.
GOLF: Rachel Connor confirmed her growing
reputation as one of the country's exciting young talents when she
finished top England player in the St Leonards Under-16 Open
Championship in Scotland.
The 14-year-old, whose father Brian is professional at Manchester
Golf Club, finished third two shots behind winner Krystle
Caithness.
BASKETBALL: Manchester Mystics season is over
after they lost 87-83 at Solent Stars in the England First Division
play-off quarter-finals. Stockport Lapwings went down to Nottingham
Wildcats.
MOTOR SPORT: Alderley Edge's Natalie Barratt
finished 11th in the Production class at the World Rally
Championships in New Zealand.
GOLF: Bramhall' s centenary celebrations get into
full swing on May 8 with the flag-raising ceremony and the club are
asking past and present members to relate their memories.
"We are staging a variety of functions throughout the season," said
spokesman Peter Blackburn.
Neighbours Stockport, along with Chapel-en-le-Frith, are also
marking their centenaries.
And Lymm, who celebrate theirs next year, have a full programme of
events at the planning stage.
ROWING: Manchester and Salford universities have
been given a massive boost before their annual boat race.
Henri Lloyd, the Manchester-based clothing brand, has boosted the
teams by donating a five-figure sum towards the event.
The deal, which includes funding for kit and clothing over the next
three years, is welcome news for the universities and the
34-year-old race.
