A sale teenager is thrilled after winning a competition to design an application for the iPhone.

David Jones, a pupil at Trafford College, designed the program – or ‘app’ – for music website getyourearsout.com.

Called Gig Ratings, it would send users text messages straight after they visit gigs so they could send reviews to a website.

The 17-year-old scooped the prize of an iPod Touch music player and has been offered a work placement with city centre digital media agency Tecmark, which ran the competition.

He said: "The presentation was nervewracking – I felt like I was entering Dragons’ Den!

"It was a fantastic experience for me and I now have a better understanding of what it takes to cut it in the commercial world."

Tecmark’s director, Kevin Jones, said: "We were impressed with all the presentations but David’s concept really stood out.

"It was great and, most importantly, we can see a place for it in the market."
