ST THOMAS More High School had cause to celebrate with an incredible set of results.
The Denton school saw an excellent 92 per cent of its students pass with five or more A* to C grades, and for 70 per cent of students those grades included maths and English at a high grade.
Among the high achievers were Laura Crompton and Emily Williams
Laura got two A*s, 6As and a B as a diploma in ICT and now hopes to do A levels in biology, chemistry, psychology and law at Stockport’s Aquinas College with a view to working in a coroner’s office after university.
"When I was thinking about careers that’s what I based my (A level) choices on," said Laura, who did work experience with police in Stockport. I like The Bill, but in real life, it’s a lot slower!"
Emily got five A*s, four As, a grade three in PE and a distinction in her ICT diploma and is now off to Aquinas College to take A levels in maths, computing, psychology, sociology and philosophy.
"I’m hoping to do a psychology bachelor’s degree at Manchester University, a master’s degree at Liverpool and then go back to Manchester to do a PhD," said Emily.
"I was really happy (when I got the results) because I wasn’t actually sure that I’d get an A* in science."
Emily hopes to become a forensic profiler when she’s older, helping the police to solve crimes.
"This has been another year of outstanding results," said headteacher Janet Burns.
"Our success as one of the highest achieving colleges in the borough again this year reflects the excellent work of pupils and staff and the brilliant support of our parents and families. We are a very close community and we pride ourselves on our teamwork and high expectations and standards."
The school is in the the top 10 per cent of colleges nationally, and this year 80 per cent of students gained an A* to C in English and 75 per cent got a top grade in maths.
