AS if celebrities didn't have enough to worry about, I hear the dawn of High Definition TV is sending some of those sensitive little lambs into a bit of a tizzy.

Because HD TV promises to give a sharper picture, it means potentially a five times closer look at every tiniest line on our TV stars' faces.

Needless to say, this has got both TV companies and their starlets a little worried.

But Sky TV is tackling the issue head on – having developed a dedicated team of hair and make-up artists to perfect techniques to make sure all of their telly personalities are well and truly ready for their close-ups.

With this in mind, I couldn't resist the offer from Sky TV to give me the “HD ready” makeover ahead of the festive party season.

I meet up with make-up artist Sandra Covickovic who polishes the faces of presenters on Sky News, Sky Sports News and Channel Five.

A professional of 22 years, Sandra explains that the new HD technology has meant a fresh approach to hair and makeup.

She says: “The sharper the picture means lots more details. You can see so much more detail, every single spot or freckle.”

So out goes traditional foundation applied with a sponge, in comes a rather industrial looking air-brushing machine.

Yep, my spots, freckles and wrinkles are literally going to be sprayed away.

Sandra explains that my pasty white skin will have to be “warmed up” a couple of shades – and as well as my face, my neck and decolletage will be sprayed to match.

So, I enquire, is my English Rose look not good for TV?

Sandra tells me straight: “You wouldn't be let on TV that colour.”

I'm swiftly bronzed up a couple of shades, and Sandra also contours me some cheekbones with some crafty jets of bronzer and blusher.

Next is smoky eyes, and sculpted eyebrows. Then Sandra puffs up my hair, spraying every last strand tightly to my head – as you don't want a bit of frizz putting off TV viewers.

At first I was not convinced, but looking at my before and after photos, Sandra performed something of a miracle. Now where can I buy one of those airbrushing machines?
