Good build-up

Curzon Ashton 4
Bacup Borough 0

ANY nerves Curzon might have had about Saturday's FA Vase quarter-final did not show as some delightful football gave them a comfortable victory.

Gary Lowe, no doubt with one eye on the game at the weekend, gave four of his players a rest, but it did not take Curzon long to click into gear.

The opener came inside five minutes when Mike Norton laid the ball off to Wayne Cahill and he drove the ball beyond former Curzon keeper Tommy Allen.

Steve Moore then hit the side-netting before Curzon added a double on 17 minutes, Nick Allen driving the ball beyond his namesake.

Simon Myerscough fired well off target for Bacup, but it was Curzon who went closest before half-time with Cahill denied by Tommy Allen's feet before sending another effort wide with the defence backing off.

Tommy Allen's legs denied Dave Birch a goal at the start of the second half before Cahill finally got the better of the Bacup keeper for a second time on 53 minutes.

Gaining possession wide on the left, he moved down the flank before cutting inside and going past three players before scoring from the edge of the penalty area.

Nick Allen drove an effort over the top before Josh Mitten ended the scoring with his first goal since returning to Curzon, turning and driving the ball home from eight yards.

Attendance: 144.
