Valentine’s day while Trafford taste defeat

Rugby Union

DUKINFIELD maintained their good start to 2005, recording their third consecutive victory with a 26-8 win over Ruskin Park.

They started as in previous weeks with the forwards taking the game to Ruskin Park, scoring the opening try through Lindley and converted by Callan.

The visitors piled on the pressure from the restart as only outstanding defence kept them at bay before Valentine went over for a second converted score.

However, Ruskin again replied positively, cutting the deficit with a try in the corner.

Rather than count down the clock towards half-time, Dukinfield charged forward as Valentine scored his second try, converted by Callan.

The second half was somewhat of a stalemate in comparison as Pete McGarry's try and a last minute Park penalty proved to be the highlights.

Aldwinians boosted their hopes of moving away from the North Lancs/Cumbria drop zone with a 27-8 win over Trafford.

With two 17-year-olds on debut, Aldwinians took an early 8-0 lead as Bamber's penalty was followed with a try for Johnson.

However, Trafford pulled five points back with a 20th minute try but Aldwinians regained the initiative as Stanley scored a try, converted by Bamber.

They extended their lead when Russell and Mike Thompson combined for the latter to touch down.

Their domination continued after half-time, adding an unconverted try through Thorpe and only conceding one penalty.
