Ryan races his way to national title

RYAN Gould.

A TALENTED Tamesider has come out of his brother's footprints to win the 2004 English Fell Running Championship.

Twelve-year-old Ryan Gould of Alt Road, Ashton, won this year's events after racking up the most points from several races.

His 13-year-old brother Niall - who is an East Cheshire Harrier team-mate - came third in his event which sees boys running over hills and moors.

The boys, who attend West Hill School, Stalybridge, became interested in the sport through their grandfather.

Mum Wendy explained: "Ryan's come joint first with another lad at the end of year after they went racing in places like Cumbria.

"I was surprised he won but Niall runs at a higher age group and came third."
