Lilywhites missing out

Mossley 2
Alsager Town 2

THE Lilywhites paid a heavy penalty for not putting the game beyond Alsager in the first half.

The match started well enough as, in only the third minute, Adam Morning's corner found Josh Howard 15 yards out, and his first-time strike flew past visiting goalkeeper Powner.

Mossley played a lot of good football for the remainder of the first period, and only a miraculous stop prevented Tony Carroll from scoring a second.

Tony Coyne and Leon Mike were also guilty of missing chances as game number 13 should have proved unlucky and the end of Alsager's unbeaten run.

The second half proved to be very different as a combination of better play from the opposition and Mossley's slackening off proved decisive.

Seven minutes of the second period had elapsed when the scores were levelled.

Rowe headed on Kinsey's corner at the near post and the unchallenged Will Hurley headed into the net.

Kinsey then added a second when given too much space, but Mossley came back when a mazy run into the box from Howard failed to produce a shot, but Dootson's pass found Mike who turned and shot past the keeper for the equaliser.

While one point is better is none, it is still two less than Clitheroe managed and, come the end of April, it might not be enough.
