LOCAL tennis has received a boost with the news that the Priory Club has become the first in the borough to receive ‘Tennis Clubmark’ accreditation.
The club, based at Cheethams Park, Mottram Road, will receive the certificate later this month for its work on and off the court.
It is recognition from Sport England and the Lawn Tennis Association that the club has: developed programmes, policies and procedures in line with best practice; demonstrated its contribution to British tennis; and continually improved the club, coaching, competition and off-court management.
Club chairman Anne Steele said: "We are delighted to receive this award, which endorses the high standards of coaching and club management that we have at Priory.
"Our aim is to get people playing tennis and making use of the excellent facilities we have. Clubmark gives the reassurance that we are on the right track to take Priory forward into the next decade and beyond."
Priory already has four professionally maintained, floodlit artificial courts but there are ambitious plans for the future, one of which is adding a ‘kidzone’ this year.
Steele said: "Now that we have Tennis Clubmark status, we are optimistic that we’ll attract funding to help us build a mini-tennis court and practice wall in the second half of 2009."
