ASHTON United Supporters’ Club have commemorated the 130th anniversary of the Robins’ forerunners by commissioning 130 limited edition pin badges.
Each badge is individually numbered with number one being presented to Robins chairman David Aspinall at the club’s recent friendly against Droylsden.
The year 1878 had seen the men of Hurst add football to their existing cricket team to create the Hurst Cricket and Football Club.
Hurst reached the second round of the FA Cup at the first attempt in 1883, landing their first piece of silverware two years later when beating Newton Heath 3-0 to lift the inaugural Manchester Senior Cup.
In 1946, Hurst FC – as they were more simply known – changed their name to Ashton United, partly to acknowledge the absorbtion some years earlier of the old district of Hurst into the control of the Ashton-under-Lyne town council.
The badges cost £4 with 70p for postage and packing. They are available by writing to: Ashton United Supporters’ Club, Ashton United FC, Hurst Cross, Surrey Street, Ashton, OL6 8DY or sending them an email at ashton.utd@ntlworld.com
A leading after dinner speaker and comedian have been lined up to appear on the bill. Tickets are available from the Supporters’ Club by using the contact details above.
