Lilywhites seeking new boss

Mossley AFC are on the lookout for a new manager following the resignation of John Flanagan.

He informed the directors that he would be stepping down from his role at Seel Park prior to last Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Rossendale United.

Work commitments are the reason behind Flanagan’s decision after helping to transform the club’s fortunes over the past three months.

A club statement read: “The club would like to place on record their sincere gratitude and appreciation to John for his efforts, firstly as assistant manager since August 2009, then as manager, stepping after the resignation of Chris Willcock in February 2010.

“John’s record as manager was superb, taking the club from 16th position in February, to a seventh-placed finish, narrowly missing out on the play-off positions.

“He encouraged a great brand of attacking, entertaining football, which quickly won over not only the supporters, but the players also.

“We wish John every success in his business and any future involvement in football.

“The club will make an announcement in relation to the vacant position in due course.”

Away from the first team, Mossley have announced that they are set to have reserve and youth teams next season.

Football development officer and former Stalybridge Celtic director Colin Fielding has stepped on board at Mossley along with UEFA ‘A’ licence coach Shaun Higgins and qualified youth coach Matt Broadhead.

The reserve team will turn out in the top division of the 'Galaxy Football Lancashire League and will play their home games at Seel Park.

The youth team, who are set to play their games at Gorton’s Wright Robinson Sports College, will play in the North West Youth Alliance and also compete in the FA Youth Cup.

The club added: “This is an extremely important and far reaching step in the the development of Mossley AFC and now creates a direct link with the Mossley Juniors set up which goes from under-sevens through to under-16.”
