Two second-half goals ended Curzon’s hopes of a UniBond League Cup final appearance for this season at the Tameside Stadium.

With keeper Michael Hale cup-tied Javier Sanchez returned in goal with Andrew Lundy back in the starting line-up.

Curzon started the first half the strongest, and after only two minutes, a cross by Dave Birch was knocked down into the box but Tom Evans in the Pilgrims goal was out the quickest to deny Phil Edghill.

Matthew Wood forced Evans into a full stretch save on four minutes, pushing away a great strike from 18 yards for a corner.

Curzon made a steady start, pushing forward at every opportunity, using both flanks well and putting in some great crosses while Boston were restricted to the long ball over the top.

On 19 minutes Curzon had their best chance when Chris Curley lofted a cross into the box and found Lundy six yards out, but his shot was weak and Evans collected with ease.

Cavell Coo cut in and shot from just outside the box, forcing Evans to come to the Pilgrims’ rescue yet again before he thwarted Michael Norton.

In the second half Boston grabbed a early goal to undo all Curzon’s hard work.

On 49 minutes, Danny Sleath slipped in behind the Curzon defence to poke the ball under Sanchez and spark Boston into life.

Curzon were then denied a penalty when referee Craig Grundy waved away their appeal as they attacked from the kick-off.

Norton had a great chance when he found himself 12 yards out, but turned and shot high over the crossbar.

A one-two between Norton and Lundy gave Curzon a great chance to draw level but the latter could not control the ball and get past his marker.

Boston cleared to the other end, and with a cross from the left, found Spencer Weir-Daley free at the back post.

He duly placed a deft header past Sanchez to put Boston into the final.

Although Curzon never gave up and tried desperately hard to get back into the game, Boston defended well and saw the game out.
