GOALS from Chris Simm either side of half-time settled this end of season encounter at sunny Ewen Fields, even though the Tigers were never at their best.

It was very much end-of-season fare, but Hyde finished on a high to bring a difficult campaign to an end.

It is now down to the Conference management, and various other clubs’ difficulties, to decide their fate.

Over recent games Hyde have played well without really hitting the high spots.

However, against Solihull, they took their chances and collected the points.

They finished five points adrift despite amassing 42 points, which says something about the strength of the league.

Solihull had much of the early play and could have taken the lead on 24 minutes when David Thompson attempted to head back to Craig Dootson. Mark Gardner intercepted as Dootson came out but the ball went out of play. On another day it could have been a penalty, but both referee and his assistant agreed on just a goal kick.

There was not much reaction from the players, but the decision incensed the Solihull coach driver so much that, dressed as Batman, he ran half the length of the pitch to remonstrate with the assistant.

After a couple of near misses, Hyde took the lead on 43 minutes when Nicky Clee crossed from the left and Simm was on hand to hammer the ball home to give the Tigers a rather fortuitous half-time lead.

But two minutes after the break, Dootson launched the ball downfield and Simm reacted the sharpest to head the ball over the advancing Daniel Crane to give Hyde some breathing space.

However, Jake Edwards pulled a goal back for the visitors on 55 minutes when Karl Munroe’s attempted clearance struck him and looped into the net, but Hyde were back in front three minutes later when Chris Lynch coolly finished from inside the box.

Lee Rick almost grabbed another in the closing stages as Hyde ultimately cruised to victory in an instantly forgettable game.
