THE home side recorded a comprehensive victory in the end, but having gone three goals ahead, they were shaken by the visitors’ fightback before finishing the game well on top.
United were two goals up within the first 10 minutes as Iain Howard converted Ryan Moore’s cross before Robbie Talbot scored from the spot after being held back by Andy Boyce.
There was only one team in the game at this stage with the visitors taking 25 minutes to register an attempt at goal as James Dudgeon headed over from Steve Robinson’s free kick.
The home side’s third goal came after a fine move between Howard and Ben Deegan ended with the ball reaching Ben Smith who placed it into the top corner with Steve Hernandez well beaten.
However, the visitors were a different side at the start of the second half, pulling a goal back just after the hour through Kirk Jackson.
It seemed as if the comeback was on when Kevin Sanasay volleyed home a second seven minutes later.
Ashton regrouped though and saw substitute Callum Flanagan score twice within a couple of minutes to put the match out of Worskop’s reach.
The first was a low shot coming at the end of a fine move, while the second was a scrambled effort at the far post.
With Ashton playing some fine attacking football in difficult conditions, there was still time for a sixth goal when another flowing move ended with Ian Bennett driving a low shot into the far corner.
