Northwich avenged their defeat in last season’s League Cup final to retain the division’s sole unbeaten record.

Both sides went close in the first half with ex-Robin Ian Kearney denied by Terry Smith, while Aaron Burns fired over at the other end.

The deadlock was broken in the second half when a handball decision allowed Armstrong to score from the spot.

However, the Robins were level when Amadi laid the ball back for Lambert to score from the edge of the area.

Nevertheless, the hosts regained the initiative when Clarke headed home before Kearney headed his second.

There was still time for Smith to deny Evans as Northwich secured victory.
