Second spot is all but certain for Broadbottom

Broadbottom look to have clinched runners-up spot in division one of the Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League following victory at Tintwistle.

The hosts batted first and made 161-6, only for Broadbottom to reach their target with four wickets and five deliveries in hand.

Compstall remained in the relegation battle as they dismissed Birch Vale for 170, only to fall two runs short of victory in reply.

Chapel were victorious against an inconsistent Hayfield side as they compiled 153-7 and dismissed their visitors for 132.

Rain forced an early end at Newton where the home side were 152-8 chasing Old Glossop’s 171-9.

In division two, only nine points separate second from third after Woodley’s comprehensive win at Charlesworth.

They skittled the home side side for 135 before replying with 139-1 to seal a 10-wicket victory.

Hadfield still have an outside chance of promotion as they restricted Dove Holes to 124-8 and replied with 125-7.

Showers brought an end to proceedings at Mottram where the home side had made 55-2 against Hollingworth.

In division three, Dinting had a narrow victory at Hawk Green as they made 175-8 and bowled out their hosts for 158.

The elements robbed Newton of victory at Old Glossop as they dismissed the home side for 63 and were 7-0 in reply when the heavens opened.

Broadbottom and Tintwistle had a rain-affected draw with the former 76-8 in reply to the latter’s 99-8.

Mottram were 41-run winners at Hayfield as they compiled 192-9 and bowled out their hosts for 151.

As for division four, Chapel were seven-wicket winners at Hollingworth where they made 102-3 after dismissing their opponents for 100.

Charlesworth went down by seven wickets to Compstall after they batted first and were all out for 108.

Hadfield were 20-run winners at Hazel Grove after making 160-9 and bowling their hosts out for 140.
