Hyde book their place in Sky Sports’ spotlight

Hyde booked their place on Sky Sports after defeating Kendal in the last eight of the ECB National Cockspur Twenty20 competition.

Having won the toss against their Northern League opponents, Hyde bowled first and saw their hosts start cautiously.

Openers Baker and Miles both made 14 as the home side plodded to 52-3 at the halfway stage with Dan Cranmer and Joe Dawber bowling in tandem.

Sharp Hyde fielding then reduced them to 74-5, and with Rob Woolley unable to bowl two overs because of a side strain, the home side recovered to 110-5 at the end of their allotted overs.

Hyde’s James Duffy and David Fitzsimmons added 33 in the first five overs before the latter was out for 18.

Duffy (13) quickly followed, but it looked like Hyde would romp home when Scott Kirwin joined Dan Berry.

However, three wickets fell with the score on 67 with Berry, Kirwin and Daniel Walker all dismissed.

Woolley and Tom Twiney (13) led the recovery, taking them to the brink of victory.

Nevertheless, Woolley’s undefeated 30 took his side to victory, ending on 113-6.

They now travel to Chelmsford on September 19 for national finals day where they face Chester-le-Street, with the matches shown live on Sky Sports.
