Droylsden moved into second place in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League after an impressive 129-run victory over Heyside at Heyside’s Little Hey Street ground on Saturday.
Droylsden batted first, reaching 263-9, skipper Mike Schofield top-scoring with a fine 92 before he was caught by Ben Holt off the bowling of Liam Garnett.
Saif Ur Rehman chipped in with a gutsy 42
In reply, Heyside never looked like reaching the required target and were quickly in trouble, losing their top four batsmen with only 40 on the board.
Wasim Qasim was the bowling hero with the impressive figures of six for 47.
The other four wickets were taken by Mohammed Shakir (3-41) and Saif Ur Rehman (1-44) as Heyside were all out for 134.
The following day saw them face Bolton-based Egerton in the first round of this year’s LCB Cup.
Incessant rain meant that no play was possible, triggering the dreaded bowlout.
Egerton could only manage one hit, while Aaqib Uppal and Wasim Qasim were both on target for Droylsden.
The Oakfield outfit now look forward to a trip to Lake Garage CLL outfit Rochdale on Sunday, June 5.
