On another beautiful but blustery day, Dinting hosted Newton in the second game of the Derbyshire and Cheshire League cricket season.
After initial discussions regarding the quality of the ground and wicket, it was no surprise that when Newton won the toss they batted first in the hope of capitalising on the excellent conditions.
Seville and Harwick both bowled very well in the opening exchanges and it wasn’t not long until Harwick picked up the first of his two wickets with Hammond dismissed for a duck.
This brought Barnard to the crease, and after surviving a close LBW shout first ball, he was soon on his way after Seville bowled him.
The field was buzzing as Dinting gained the initiative when Grant was out LBW and Newton were 8-3.
Newton had to rebuild and did so with Johnson (28) and Mulkeen (25) looking good until Dinting rallied once more with the introduction of Massey and Thomson.
The pressure finally told on the Newton batsmen with Johnson caught by Seville off Thompson and Massey bowling Mulkeen.
Wickets fell at regular intervals thereafter with some excellent flight and guile from Thompson who took 5-22 and Massey 2-11 as Newton lost their last five wickets for nine runs to be dismissed for 90.
Dinting's innings started as well as expected against the imposing Pottage and Grant, with Grant’s pace meaning he gained lots of carry.
Stopford and Blood had to remain patient and when the opportunity arose they played some fine strokes.
Just as it looked like Dinting would possibly knock the runs without loss, they lost three quick wickets to leave themselves on 50-3.
However, such is the strength in depth of the team there was little need to panic as Woolleson and skipper Wilson upped the ante.
In no time at all, they had reached their target without losing any further wickets.
Wilson (23 not out) looked especially impressive with the highlight being a six over extra cover, while Woolleson ended the innings undefeated on 22.
