Cricket duo target titles

Hyde and Denton St Lawrence could make it a cricketing weekend to remember as both sides have silverware in their sights.

The Werneth Low men are involved in a three-way battle for the Chapel Press Cheshire County Cricket League Premier Division title.

The closest finish in the league’s 36-year history sees Hyde, Nantwich and Oulton Park separated by only 12 points.

Hyde lead the way with 259 points, two ahead of Nantwich with Oulton Park another 10 back.

The local side will be certain to clinch their first league title since the CLL-winning season of 1981, provided they take maximum points against an already relegated Bramhall side at Church Lane.

As for Denton St Lawrence, they travel to St Annes to face Farnworth in the final of the Lancashire Cup.

Steve Walton’s men are the first Lees Brewery Lancashire County League side to reach the final since 1976.
