STALYBRIDGE St Pauls’ first and second teams had mixed fortunes last weekend.

The firsts were in action at Hartford where they suffered a seven-wicket defeat after being put into bat.

Having lost an early wicket Saints saw Whitworth and Harwick add 83 until the latter was out for 37.

His exit saw the runs begin to dry up as Whitworth was soon out for 53, sparking a collapse which saw Saints all out for 172.

In reply, the Stalybridge opening bowlers failed to get going as Hartford quickly reached 50-0 in reply.

Although Darwent took a couple of quick wickets, they were in vain as the hosts replied with 178-3.

The seconds were also beaten as they went down by eight wickets against Woodford.

Batting first, Saints were all out for 102 with only Mooney (25) and Brown (15) reaching double figures.

Despite losing an early wicket in reply, the visitors batted in calculating fashion to win with only two wickets down.

However, the seconds atoned the following day with a 77-run cup success at Sandbach.

Wright (104) and Gledhill (44) put on 144 for the first wicket as Saints ended on 259-5 before bowling out Sandbach for 182.
