IT was a case of ‘double delight’ for Droylsden Cricket Club when they defeated Saddleworth for the second time this season in the Armstrongs Saddleworth and District Cricket League season.
Having travelled to Saddleworth’s Well-i-Hole ground, Droylsden fielded first and saw some fine bowling dismiss their hosts for 147.
Mike Schofield and Pervez Shah each claimed three wickets, while Aaqib Uppal claimed another two and Mike Ratcliffe one.
In reply, a fine opening partnership of 88 between Shah (57) and Uppal (43) put Droylsden well on the way to victory.
However, they did have a wobble when Saddleworth skipper and professional Peter Skuse trapped Uppal LBW before bowling Schofield and Gareth Dent.
Doubts began to creep in once Neil Pearson was bowled by Stephen Holmes, but Ratcliffe and Mike Tipping were both undefeated as Droylsden reached 148-5, sealing a rare double over their old adversaries.
