Dukinfield 103-8, Thornham 104-2 - A GAME reduced by rain to 20 overs per side saw Dukinfield beaten by eight wickets at Higher King Street on Saturday.
Heavy showers meant that match could not start until after 5pm, leaving Dukinfield to bat first, knowing they had to set a difficult target.
They managed to set a scoring rate of five runs per over with skipper David Gandy leading the way.
He struck four boundaries in a confident 33, receiving good support along the way from Mark Stringer (17) and Simon Collins (18).
However, good bowling from Thornham’s Shakir Mohammed restricted them to 103-8 as he ended with figures of 6-58.
Dukinfield professional Adam Robinson bowled well in the Thornham reply, breaking the opening partnership of Scott and Mahmood in the fifth over when he had the former caught by Kabeel Akram for 17 with the score on 20.
Looking for quick runs, Mahmood was joined by McClure for a sparkling second wicket stand of 66 in only 40 minutes.
It eventually came to an end when McClure was caught by Imran Ditta off Robinson’s bowling for a breezy 28.
Dukinfield did not enjoy any further success though as Thornham secured an eight-wicket victory with two overs to spare.
It was Mahmood who took them across the finishing line, hitting his eighth boundary to finish 54 not out despite Robinson taking 2-48 for Dukinfield.
