Morris boys dance around Buxton battlers

THE weather played a major part in last weekend’s round of games in the Peak Sports Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League as New Mills hit rock bottom of division one and Hollingworth broke away at the top of division two.

Division one saw New Mills fall six runs short in a rain-reduced game at Dove Holes where the hosts compiled 136-5 before three wickets each from Jack Gregory and Dave Cartledge saw the visitors dismissed for 130.

Tintwistle were put into bat by visiting Hazel Grove and made 161-7, mainly thanks to Rick Harris’ undefeated 89 as Ian Hayward took 3-60 and Mike Potter 3-44.

Although Nick Hayward made 52 in Grove’s reply, Martin Harris ended with 6-36 as they were all out for 141.

Compstall had made 70-0 against Dinting before their match was abandoned, while there was no play between Old Glossop and Newton.

In division two, Hollingworth batted first at home to Buxton and set 110-7 despite Beardmore’s 3-52 and McKenzie’s 3-42.

Marsden hit 34 in reply for Buxton, only for Ian Morris’ 6-48 and Dave Morris’ 3-11 to see them all out for 97.

Mottram batted first at home to Hadfield and made 159-6 thanks to 45 each from Windsor and Fielding, the latter undefeated.

Mike Hockey also made 45 in Hadfield’s reply, but Grinstead’s 3-54 saw Hadfield fall one run short as they were dismissed for 158.

There was no play between Broadbottom and Charlesworth, or between Whaley Bridge and Chapel.

Tintwistle were victorious by 95 runs against Chapel in division three, Dave Thornhill hitting 68 in their 174-4 before Nield took four wickets as Chapel were skittled for 79.

Craig Cooper returned figures of 6-49 as Newton were 99 all out against an Old Glossop side who knocked off their runs for the loss of six wickets.

There was no play between Compstall and Dinting, or between New Mills and Dove Holes.

Mottram were seven-wicket winners at Hadfield where the hosts had made 115-9, Hilton taking 4-22 and Moore 3-15.

Whaley Bridge saw off Hazel Grove by 36 runs, Russ Wild hitting 55 in their 135-6 before Colin Wild (4-45) and Ed Kitchen (3-38) saw Hazel Grove all out for 99.

There was no play in the match between Charlesworth and Broadbottom.
