Micklehurst CC prepare for new season

Micklehurst CC are back in training ahead of their return to the Saddleworth and District Cricket League for the forthcoming season following their time in the Huddersfield and District Cricket League.

Indoor nets began on Saturday January 14 and take place at Westhill School, Stalybridge, from 1pm-2pm – but new players are welcome.

End of an era for Alliance

The local cricketing landscape will look different next season with the Ashton and Oldham Cricket Alliance having taken the decision to disband.

Officials reluctantly made the move after only five teams gave a positive commitment to play in 2012.

It’s the end for Chapel

The final weekend of the Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League saw relegated Chapel bow out of division one with victory over Buxton.

The latter batted first and rattled up an impressive 236-3, only for the home side to finish with 238-6.

Once again the weekend’s fixtures saw the Rayner Lane side defeated, and as on so many occasions, their inability to build a competitive total was the problem.

The hosts batted first and made 161-6, only for Broadbottom to reach their target with four wickets and five deliveries in hand.

Hyde booked their place on Sky Sports after defeating Kendal in the last eight of the ECB National Cockspur Twenty20 competition.

Having won the toss against their Northern League opponents, Hyde bowled first and saw their hosts start cautiously.

Foresters flourishing

Foresters secured the runners-up position in the Ashton and Oldham Alliance with an excellent win at champions Friends on Saturday.

Foresters batted first and made 173-8, Yates (46) and Wallbank (32) both batting well, with Amin (3-33) and Mohsin (3-50) the main wicket-takers for Friends.

Broadbottom strengthened their grip on the runners-up spot in division one of the Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League after victory over Hayfield.

The home side were 160 all out. before dismissing Hayfield for 106.

Last weekend’s Lake Garage CLL fixtures saw Ashton visit Royton on Saturday and host Milnrow the following day with both games going the way of the opposition in fairly comprehensive fashion.

The early inroads into the Royton line up saw Ashton well in the game as the home team collapsed to 47-6, with Siraj Kadodia producing an excellent spell, eventually returning the fine figures of 7-54.

A fast start pays off for Hyde

Hyde claimed the Cockspur ECB Regional Twenty20 title last weekend in dramatic fashion at Longton CC.

Both teams finished on the same score with the same number of wickets lost.

Broadbottom consolidated second spot in division one of the Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League as they beat Birch Vale by eight wickets, making 218-2 after dismissing them for 217.

Newton had a much needed win as they bowled out Hawk Green for 155 and replied with 158-7.
