Ashton MP David Heyes dropped into Tameside Hospital to officially open a £19m mental health unit for older people.
The unit, run by Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, opened in October but was given the MP's seal of approval during a special visit on Friday.
Based in the Etherow building, the specialist service supports inpatients as well as those with mental health problems living in the community.
Mr Heyes, who unveiled a commemmorative plaque at the unit, said: "I first visited the unit when it was under construction so it's an honour to be invited back and to see the services in action.
"Alongside the redevelopment of the hospital, it's just further evidence of the huge investment by the NHS in Tameside's health services over the last few years."

Maybe a few less chiefs & a lot more indians? And of course, a general manager who is not in denial.
