After meeting at the local milk bar, Molly and Vincent Mooney are celebrating 60 years of marriage.
The couple were first introduced shortly after the war when Molly was aged just 16.
"We were introduced at Ashton Palais. I was 16 then and 18-and-a-half when we married. He’d just come out of the army in 1947 and was 22," said Molly, 78.
"He’d always known me. He used to collect church money and used to call at our house."
After courting for two years, Vincent proposed and the couple married at St Mary’s Church in Ashton and spent their honeymoon in Blackpool before settling into their new home in Stalybridge.
At the time Molly worked in a confectionery shop and Vincent as an electrician.
"I borrowed the dress off somebody who’d been married, from a friend. Rationing was still on until 1950," said Molly about her wedding.
The couple had three children and soon moved to Dewsnap Lane in Dukinfield, where they have lived for more than 50 years.
Today, Vincent, aged 83, is a keen gardener and Molly is a member of the Yew Tree Singers and both are active in their local church, St Mary’s in Dukinfield, where they have many friends.
"I think it’s having a good sense of humour that’s kept us together, and caring for the other person more than you care for yourself," said Molly.
