TILL death do us part took on a whole new meaning when Clare Walsh and Steven Curtis tied the knot – dressed as zombies.

The couple, from Ashton, made their wedding day one to remember when they ditched tradition in favour of more ghoulish celebrations as part of Zombie Aid.

The event – the first of which was held this summer – saw thousands of fans of the undead descend on Manchester for a fancy dress walk to raise money for Christies.

Clare, 34, and Steven, 33, stuck with convention and took their vows on Sunday in front of family and friends at a city centre hotel.

But instead of white, the bride wore a gothic gown complete with fake barbed wire and the groom was splattered with fake blood.

Even the wedding party and the couple’s four sons joined in with their own chilling costumes.

The couple – who were married alongside another spooky bride and groom from Barnsley – also recreated the ceremony to kick off the mass ‘zombie walk’ on Sunday evening.

Clare said: "It actually started off as a joke. We were planning on getting married next year at halloween and a friend of ours suggested Zombie Aid. We’ve always liked horror movies and make-up but we never imagined in our wildest dreams that this kind of thing would be possible. It was absolutely amazing. It beats the old traditional weddings and to share something so special with so many people was really touching."

Zombie Aid – organised by Carl Whiteley – also saw fanatics recreate Michael Jackson’s Thriller video in Pure nightclub in the Printworks.

Organisers are hopeful they may have broken the world record for such an attempt as well as for the most ‘zombies’ in a deserted Arndale mall.

Steven added: "I’ve been into horror films since being a kid and it was almost like being in your own little zombie film. It was fantastic and Clare looked amazing – she definitely went all out to be a zombie bride."
