TAMESIDE Council workers today began a two-day strike over pay.
The council says the actiojn by members of Unison could leave residents without some services such as bin collection.
However, the union said it had no option but to strike - along with other members nationally - because of what it calls a derisory pay offer from the government of 2.4 per cent.
Pickets with placards staged demonstrations outside Stalybridge Resource Centre in Waterloo Road and outside Frederick House in Hyde. Pickets are planned for other venues across the borough today and tomorrow (Thursday).

I'm certainly not funding it with further local tax increases ...my loaf of bread costs the same as theirs.
The unfortunate thing is, my employment is in the private sector, so strike action isn't a norm for an increase in salary.
Watch this space, they will be up in arms when the local councils start to look for a 20% reduction in the workforce ...but, those who remain in employment after the cuts wont give a stuff about their dismissed colleges. Its call sod you Jack, I'm ok.
