IAN Millward is bracing himself for a journey into the unknown on Sunday!

The coach of Challenge Cup holders St Helens is ready for the clash with Oldham at Stalybridge Celtic's Bower Fold ground.

Millward admits he doesn't even know where Stalybridge is, let alone what awaits him at the home of the Conference League club who host the big clash.

One thing Millward does admit to is his liking for pressure.

He said: "We are the defending champions and winning the trophy will be more difficult this year because standards have gone up.

"We've lost 10 players, five new ones have come in, and we are ready for what lies ahead.

"Where we play is not an issue because I will field my best 17 and have every confidence in them.

Serious

"We are very serious about the Challenge Cup. Oldham are now coached by John Harbin - he's a very passionate person who enjoys his rugby.

"It's great to hear him talking about causing an upset because this gives the game added edge.

"Oldham have been playing regularly - they have players who will compete with us but I fully expect our class to eventually shine through."

There will be a familiar face in the Oldham line-up hoping to put one over Saints in the form of John Braddish, who is on a 12 month loan with the Roughyeds from Saints.

Millward smiled when asked what his reaction would be should Braddish score the winning try and said: "Let's just say if this happens John won't be staying at Oldham much longer - he will be back here."

Saints start with Sean Long and Tommy Martyn at half back. Millward maintains they are the best skilled players in the business.

Saints' Aussie coach also boasts about having the quickest player in the game in Darren Albert.

He says: "Dallas and Carney are quick at Wigan but Albert, I believe, has the edge."

The stage is set for a battle royal between Oldham and Saints - Millward is highly complementary of the Northern Ford Premiership and expects few favours from John Harbin's side.

Saints skipper Chris Joynt kicked off his career at Oldham, whose pack will be led by Bryan Henare - a player who was under Millward for a short time at Saints.
