THERE was once again plenty of success for Stockport teams at last Saturday’s 20th annual Greater Manchester Youth Games event across four different venues in Manchester.
Hundreds of Stockport kids proudly represented the borough during an action-packed event which featured a multitude of sports for both able-bodied and disabled athletes.
Stockport’s boys’ table tennis team, the boys’ under-13s hockey team, and the under-15s tennis team celebrated the most as they won brilliant gold medals after some hugely impressive performances on the day.
However, there was plenty of further medal success in many other sports.
Stockport won silver medals in girls’ football, bronze medals in the under-13s and under-15s netball, silver medals in the boys’ under-15s hockey, and bronze medals in the girls’ table tennis and under-13s hockey events.
Meanwhile, fair play featured heavily during a memorable day.
Stockport teams won awards for their fair play in boys’ and girls’ basketball.
To cap things off nicely, Stockport’s team shared the gold medals, with Tameside and Manchester, in the dance discipline.
Don Hale, from Stockport’s Sports Development Office, said: "Once again all our athletes did the town proud at the Youth Games.
"It was another spectacular effort from everyone who took part."
