The Melrose consortium were still waiting to hear whether their bid to buy cash-strapped Stockport County had been rubber-stamped by the Football League on Thursday night.

The league board of directors met on Thursday to discuss the bid after administrators Leonard Curtis agreed a deal with former Manchester City striker Jim Melrose and his investors last week.

The consortium are said to be confident they will get the green light to take over at Edgeley Park, but County boss Gary Ablett is remaining cautious

"We'll be waiting for news with bated breath," said Ablett.

"I have had very limited contact with the lads behind the bid and I don't know what's going on.

"We've been down this road before and the bid hasn't been accepted, but hopefully this time it'll be good news."
