Administrators Leonard Curtis confirmed that they had reached a deal with Jim Melrose last week, but the former Manchester City striker and his group of investors need it to be ratified by the Football League board of directors.
It is understood that the board is likely to hand the club their 'golden share' of league revenue after the consortium received the backing of Edgeley Park landlord Cheshire Sports and Stockport Council - meaning County could be out of administration by the time they take on Gillingham on Saturday.
County boss Gary Ablett said: "We'll be waiting for news with bated breath.
"I have had very limited contact with the lads behind the bid and I don't know what's going on.
"Hopefully this time we will get some good news."

I also think a clean break from EP would probably be in our best interests. Perfectly logical business arrangement for Sale to own 100% of their ground with sitting tenants splitting the costs but certainly not in County's best interests. If the council won't cooperate then another alternative could be ground sharing elsewhere. Moss Rose for example fits the bill for now and I'm sure Macclesfield would be glad enough of the financial relief to negotiate a good deal.
Once we let go of the sentimental attachment to our spiritual home and explore other avenues, then CS no longer have us over a barrel. At the end of the day County will go on in one form or other. If the shady consortium takes over then I'll still be a County fan (albeit while possibly holding my nose), and if the club goes out of the league then I'll still be a County fan, wherever we end up playing.

Probably sell them for a pound and lumber someone else with a load of debts.
