Two goals in each half handed Swindon a comfortable win at the County Ground and brought the Stockport back down to earth with a bump.

Danny Ward and Billy Paynter struck in the first period, before Greg Tansey pulled one back for the visitors in added-on time.

A largely nervous second half saw Swindon finally see off a determined Hatters side through a Simon Ferry header and Paynter’s deflected effort.

Less than four minutes had elapsed when Jon-Paul McGovern drilled a corner low to the edge of the box.

Although Jonthan Douglas’ first-time strike was blocked, the loose ball fell kindly to Danny Ward, who curled it into the far corner with the aid of a slight deflection.

Swindon doubled their lead through Paynter before Tansey smashed home a fierce 20-yard free-kick to pull a goal back for the Hatters.

But two second-half goals from Ferry and then Paynter sealed all three points for the promotion-chasing Robins to leave County 12 points from safety in League One with a vital relegation six-pointer to come against second-from-bottom Wycombe Wanderers at Edgeley Park on Saturday.

IT'S YOUR JOB TO GET THE BEST OUT OF THEM GARY, SO IF YOU SAY THE PLAYERS ARE NOT PLAYING AS WELL AS THEY COULD, THEN LOOK IN THE MIRROR AS THEIR MANAGER AND YOU HAVE TO ASK YOURSELF THE QUESTION," WHY AREN'T THEY PLAYING FOR ME?".
VERY FEW ARE THE TEAMS WHO DON'T PLAY FOR THEIR MANAGER, "THE BOSS", "THE GAFFER", WHATEVER YOU WANT TO CALL HIM, AND HAVE ANY KIND OF SUCCESS AT ALL.
ASK YOURSELF THAT QUESTION GARY BEFORE YOU CRAP ON THE PLAYERS.

Well done Gary, you've worked well with nothing to work with. Some would expect you to turn around a side in two weeks, with a few new loan signing and start beating top teams, I would not. We are going down and that is not your fault. If we ever come out of admin no doubt you'll look at the prospects and if you decide to stay I would welcome it. You deserve a fair crack at this job with a full management team and some money to buy your kind of player. Then and only then can the town take a considered and level view of your work. Only a fantasist would expect the team to put in a performance that would see us escape the inevitable. Division 4 for us next year, we're coming home. Lets hope all our old rivals will still be there, and that you put together a mid league side for 2010/11 that proves to be the foundation of top league side for 2011/12. Impatience is the curse of the football supporter, but that's the passion for the game.
