IS THIS Stockport’s junior goal machine for the 2007/08 season?
Thirteen-year-old hot-shot Niall Rhodes has smashed in no less than 92 goals this season - 34 for his school team, Werneth High in Romiley, and 58 for his weekend team, Great Moor County.
And that total could still rise as the Stockport Schools’ Cup final has still to be arranged, when Werneth will take on Priestnall School.
Niall, who lives on Highfield Avenue in Romiley, has always been football mad.
He started playing for his first club, Woodley Albion, at the age of just five, before spending six good years with Signol Athletic.
Last summer Niall switched to Great Moor, and he and his team-mates recently celebrated title glory in the top flight of the Stockport Metro League.
Niall has been away representing the Metro’s Inter-League team in France over the weekend, and was set to return yesterday [Tuesday].
On the school front, Niall, who has already been scouted by a number of top professional clubs and has spent time on Stockport County’s books, scored two in the 6-2 Stockport Schools’ Cup semi-final victory over Stockport School.
Proud mum Alison said: "Niall is just crazy about football, he’s always played the game as often as he can.
"He’s had a great season, to score so many goals has been a brilliant effort.
"We’re all very proud of Niall."
