Gannon forced to cut costs to ensure County's survival

Stockport boss Jim Gannon insists he can still steer County to safety in Blue Square Bet Premier despite having released four senior players in a cost-cutting move.

The Hatters resume their battle to avoid a third successive relegation when they entertain fellow strugglers Newport on Saturday in what will be their first outing since Gannon revealed he had freed goalkeeper Matt Glennon plus outfield players Ryan McCann, Mark Lynch and John Miles, the latter two of whom have joined Altrincham.

The semi final draw for The Derbyshire FA Senior Challenge Cup was made on Friday afternoon and should New Mills beat Gresley FC in their delayed quarter final tie, they will face a trip to face a Derby County XI.

The other semi-final sees Buxton, who have been reinstated after Ilkeston fielded an ineligible player against the Bucks, host Mickleover Sports.

The Church Lane surface was playable on Friday but heavy overnight rain saw conditions deteriorate and following a pitch inspection, a local referee decided that the game couldn’t go ahead around 10.30am on Saturday morning.

Jack Dorney gave Woodley an early lead before Ben Small equalised for Garforth before half-time. Second-half goals from Tom Greaves (2) and Paul Walker earned Garforth a comfortable victory.
