Marple narrowly missed out on the Cheshire County First Division title but still clinched promotion to the Premier Division.

Widnes and Marple had to settle for seven abandonment points with their final games both badly affected by rain.

Marple lost for the third week in succession but stay top of the Cheshire County League First Division.

The upshot is that Marple go into September and their three remaining games leading by 11 points from Widnes, who themselves lead Sale by 16.

Dinting stay on course for title

Dinting need just 11 points from their remaining three games to be crowned Derbyshire and Cheshire Division One champions after a comprehensive victory in a reduced overs game at home to Hawk Green.

The home side were put into bat and were soon in trouble as Simon O’Connor took the first four wickets all caught behind by stand-in keeper Craig Young.

Off-colour Marple struggle to get over the line

Unbeaten in their first 14 games, Marple lost for the third time in the last four at home to Christleton, but their position at the top of the Cheshire County League First Division was not materially damaged as second-placed Widnes also lost.

Marple declared early at 175-5, with David Bailey making 50. Matt Parkinson took 3-28 for Christleton.

Marple fall short of a cup-final appearance as Hyde take seven-wicket win

Hyde's excellent cup form continued as they reached the final of the Cheshire Cup with a hard-fought victory at Marple on Sunday.

On winning the toss home captain Matt Shelton elected to bat first on a spongy green-tinged wicket.

Compstall edged out in tight finish

Derbyshire and Cheshire Cricket League leaders Dinting travelled to Compstall and won, but not without a major scare.

The home side batted first and were bowled out for 99, John Coleman taking 4-13. In reply Dinting were 6-4 after Mark Richards (5-32) took the first four wickets, but scraped to 100-8 thanks to 50 not out from Adam Woolaston.

Alarm bells ring as Marple lose again

Widnes caught up to within 15 points of Marple in the Cheshire County Cricket League Division One when they beat the previously runaway leaders by four wickets at Beaconsfield Road.

Batting on winning the toss, Marple were bowled out for just 79 in 46 overs by part-timer Danny Naughton (4-17) and Danny Moore (3-25). Only David Bailey, who made 35, showed up with the bat for Marple.

Newton secure longed-for win

Newton entertained a depleted Hawk Green side in Division One of the Derbyshire and Cheshire League and, after winning the toss, asked the visitors to bat on a soft track.

Scoring was never going to be easy but opener Sam Messih hit 40 and Lee Hallas 26 not out as Hawk Green posted a score of 155 all out in 39 overs as Martin Pottage took 3-63, and Mark Barnard an excellent 6-38.

Burke heroics are all in vain as Poynton slip up

Poynton slipped deeper into relegation trouble in the Cheshire County League First Division after a nine-wicket defeat to in-form Widnes.

Rhys Burke contributed 63 to Poynton’s meagre total of 107 while Andy Ford claimed 5-32 and Narender Negi 5-44 for Widnes. Widnes knocked off the runs in 23 overs, Negi (57) and Ford (37), both not out, also shining with the bat.

Grove lose out to in-form Hayfield

Hazel Grove slumped to another defeat to a resurgent Hayfield in the Derbyshire and Cheshire League.

Nick Hayward top scored for the Grove with 53 out of a below par total of 155-7 in their allotted 45 overs.

Marple’s 25-game run ended by Bollington

The growing threat which Bollington pose to the Cheshire County League First Division’s so-called ‘big three’ was underlined when they became the first team to beat leaders Marple in 25 games since July 10 last season.

Marple did well enough with the bat, declaring at 212-8. David Bailey made 66 and Mo Ali took 3-54.

Thrilling win in last over

Hayfield secured a last-over win in a thrilling game at home to Hawk Green in Division One of the Derbyshire and Cheshire League.

Hawk Green batted first and scored 242-6 thanks to Sam Messih’s 59 and Craig Young, who rolled back the years and smashed 80.

Michael stars for rampant Marple

Marple eased into a 34-point lead in the Cheshire County League First Division after outplaying Cheadle Hulme while second-placed Sale surprisingly lost to Heaton Mersey at Dane Road.

Queenslander Dominic Michael was again the star of Marple’s eighth win, scoring 54 in a tally of 218-6, then claiming 6-49 as the Grove Park men were tumbled out for 107, losing by 111 runs.

Hawk Green recover to win

Hawk Green moved up to third in the Derbyshire and Cheshire First Division after victory at home to Old Glossop.

Green were in trouble at 35-4 but thanks to knocks of 48 from opener Justin Blackhurst and a late flurry of runs from junior Jason Downey, recovered to score a below par 166-9 on a bowler friendly track.

Cheadle savour first win with shock result

Thirteen wasn’t unlucky for Cheadle, who secured their first win of the season in Cheshire County League Division One against promotion-seeking Widnes at Beaconsfield Road.

Widnes were dismissed for 114 after Sean Moore had made 44. Adam Watkins (4-37) and Fletcher Stewart (3-21) did the damage for Cheadle.
