Stockport residents will be the first in Greater Manchester to question the area's top cop tonight.
Peter Fahy, Chief Constable of Greater Manchester Police (GMP), will be at the town hall, on Edward Street, from 6pm to 8pm.
He will be joined by Paul Murphy, Greater Manchester Police Authorities chairman, to discuss how the force is performing against targets during the current cost-cutting environment.
It is the first of 10 public meetings across the force's area and will also be attended by neighbourhood officers and Stockport's Chief Superintendent Rebekah Sutcliffe.
Chf Con Peter Fahy said: "We face challenges to deliver the promises we made in the policing plan for this year to continue to reduce crime, protect vulnerable people, reduce antisocial behaviour and strengthen local policing, while continuing to deliver value for money.
“We are concentrating on ensuring we preserve frontline services and will continue to focus on neighbourhood policing. To make the savings, we face some very difficult decisions between what we know works and what people want.
“This is an opportunity for the people of Stockport to ask questions and discuss the difficult decisions that will be made."
Reporter Alex Scapens will send live updates from the meeting tonight. Click on the grey box below from 6pm ...

Once again more BS.If the police dont know what the public expect from them they are more stupid than i thought.Ill spell it out for Mr Peter Fahy, We would like to see more police on the beat (Walking) not flying past crime in their cars going to the nearest takeaway/or the nearest ATM. People see lots of police in these areas (takeaways etc) but very few on the streets i live in a area with the main police garage and armed responce units etc but we see very few police in the area???????????WHY.
Put your body armour on and speak in plain English, don't try and baffle people with government speak would be my advice. When your at the bottom of a deep hole stop digging.
Unlike the previous poster I understand the problems that GMP have.
The budget is being slashed by £138m so there is no point requesting more officers on the beat. They have to get more from what they have got, and need to concentrate them where they give the most benifit.
Well done to Fahy for consulting with the public, and by each borough, as issues on one borough may not reflect those of another.
This is our chance to have input on the changes that the force will have to implement - get down to the Town Hall and have your say , instead of whinging on here Zingo - tut !!
Ask the people what they want?
More police on the streets, more police investigating and solving crime, more information about what the police are doing please.
Oh and lower taxes as well. Good luck
We should all be telling this useless government to stop wasting billions on foreign aid and paying for wars that have nothing to do with us...along with all the other waste that this government has wasted in the time theve been in power.
Could you publish where the other 9 meetings will be?
Butch Tallywhacker, honestly, what are you slavering about? Two posts and I'm none the wiser. Coherent English next time, please.
So well advertised that I, as a NeighbourhoodWatch Co-ordinator, didn't know about the meeting - great public relations.
Perhaps the Chief Constable could answer as to why NeighbourhoodWatch in Stockport has all but been abandoned, in spite of GMP J Division, SMBC and the Community Safety Unit saying that they were supporting it actively?
It resembles a dodo.
I'm a NeighbourhoodWatch Co-ordinator and I had no idea the meeting was to take place at all, let alone today - great PR, Guys!
Perhaps the Chief Constable would care to explain why GMP J Division, SMBC and the Community Safety Unit all profess to support the NeighbourhoodWatch Schemes in Stockport and yet do absolutely naff all to support us in practice - in spite of saying many times that they do so?
NeighbourhoodWatch in Stockport shows less life than the dodo. They should either start actively supporting it or come clean and admit that they are considered a waste of space.
So good, I posted twice? Not really!
Sorry about the "double" post! The first one seemed to have disappeared so I tried to remember what I'd written.
They should get rid of all the political correctness and diversity empires and employ people to do a proper job[i.e. police the area]
Crime is only taken serious when it is against the state, it's all about £££££,$$$$$, etc, why do you think when people violent crimes and rape for example are not really punished as they should be if they can be bothered to convict them. The police are just the politically correct arm of the Lib,Lab, Con, Oxbridge brigade, you are all the same.
Perhaps the Chief Constable would like to visit Lee Street nick, just 100 yards from the Clown Hall, and tell the desk sergeant in no uncertain terms to move the ever present six/seven/eight marked police vehicles which are parked on the double yellow lines on both sides of Lee Street for its entire length. If Joe Public were to park there there would be Hell to pay. One law for Joe another for the police. Lead by example Chief Fahy.
Stop paying thousands to try and get equipment which other emergency service already have, also stop all training and exercises which cross over borders with the fire and ambulance service, you are coppers nick criminals, leave the decontamination to the experts. stop playing at the other emergency services and do your job, nicking criminals
