Little Harley Slack, the boy who lost all his limbs to meningitis, played a starring role at his parents' wedding.
The four-year-old from Stockport, almost died from meningitis last May and lost all four limbs, but he has battled his way back to health and was recently given prosthetic arms and legs.
Doctors have said it will take months for him to walk on his own but Harley won't let anything hold him back. And as mum and dad Samantha and Adam tied the knot, he was there to carry the bride's wedding ring.
Samantha, 24, from Hazel Grove, said: “It was a very special day. We have been waiting a long time to get married and after a very tough year it was lovely to celebrate with all the people who have helped us get this far.
“Harley has been really excited about the wedding, he has been talking about it for weeks and he loved that he had a special role to play,” said Sam from Hazel Grove, Stockport.
Adam, 21, from Brinnington, thanked friends and family for all their help and support over the last year in his speech and said the last year had brought the whole family closer.
Fantastic
Best man Mike Hulbert, who cycled the length of Britain to raise cash for the Harley Slack Appeal last summer said: “It was a great day, everyone had a fantastic time although there were a few tears during Adam's speech.
“They have all had a tough year but it has only made them closer.”
During the ceremony he was pushed down the aisle in his wheelchair carrying his mother's wedding ring on a cushion.
He later took a couple of steps on his new legs at the reception.
Samantha and Adam The couple got engaged two years ago and were due to marry in December but had to postpone the wedding after Harley became ill. He spent eight months recovering at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital.
His story has captured the heart of Greater Manchester and readers of the M.E.N. and our sister paper, the Stockport Express helped raise an astonishing £565,000 to give Harley a normal life.
Harley, his parents, and The couple, Harley and his younger brother two-year-old Tyler moved into a specially adapted house just before Christmas.
Harley was given his prosthetic arms and legs last month and as well as having physiotherapy to learn to use them he has also started home school for an hour a day.
Almost 20,000 people have signed up to a Facebook group supporting Harley and his family.
