ROBBIE White will go for broke in his quest to be crowned the UK’s favourite dancer.
The 22-year-old from Marple dances in the final of the BBC One programme So You Think You Can Dance on Saturday night with £100,000 and a ticket to Hollywood at stake.
Robbie will perform six dances as he aims to pip fellow contestants Charlie, Tommy and Lizzie to the title.
After exceeding even his own expectations, Robbie said he will take to the dance floor with nothing to lose.
"If you told me a year ago I would be in the final of this competition I would never have believed you," said Robbie, who has performed in the musical We Will Rock You in Germany.
"I never expected to get this far in the competition, it is an amazing surprise.
"I am up against three spectacular dancers and all I can do is go out there and give it my all and try my hardest.
"Win or lose, this has been the pinnacle of my career and the best experience of my life."
Dubbed the Stockport Spider by host Cat Deeley, Robbie has won legions of fans around the country, but none more so than in his home town of Stockport.
Having been in the dance-off for the past two weeks, Robbie needs people to pick up their phone and vote for him on Saturday night.
He said: "It has been months of hard work and winning the show would be the perfect way to say thank-you to all my friends, family and fans who have supported me throughout the show.
"The support has been awesome, it is invaluable and I would never have got this far without it.
"As the weeks have gone on and I have got mentally and physically tired and had moments when I am down, knowing there are people rooting for you really picks you back up and get me through it.
"It has also been awesome to go out there and represent Stockport.
"I want to win – I’m going to go out there and try and earn people’s vote. I want to win so I need people to be pick up their phones and vote."
Robbie danced into the final after the judges voted to save him over Alastair after he found himself in the bottom two following hip-hop and Broadway routines.
Judge Nigel Lythgoe described Robbie as an ‘inspiration’ to young men and a ‘fantastic ambassador for the world of dance.’
Robbie added: "That is what has made the whole experience worthwhile – to inspire people and to touch them with the power of dance.
"If I’m just a tiny part of that, then that is amazing."
You can see the final of So You Think You Can Dance on BBC One at 7.45pm on Saturday.
Children at All Saints’ Primary on Brickbridge Road have made banners and inundated the dancing star with messages and letters of support.
Four-year--old Anya Munro said: "We hope he wins the competition and comes home to visit us in Marple soon."
Teacher Alex Munro added: "We wish Robbie all the best, he is a wonderful role model for all the children. We are all right behind him and he has done us proud, we will all be watching on Saturday night."
Students and staff at Cheadle and Marple Sixth Form College, where Robbie studied dance, said they would all be watching Robbie on Saturday.
Janice West, from the college, said: "All our fingers are on speed dial ready to vote."
Robbie’s mum Chris Shepherd has urged Stopfordians to back her son.
She said: "He is now in the final and we desperately need people to vote. It is all down to the viewers on Saturday, he is the last northerner left in the competition and a Stockport lad.
"Robbie has done spectacularly well, he has performed beyond our expectations.
"He is quite modest and didn’t know how good he was.
"Hopefully now he was proved it to himself."
