One of the most dangerous sections of motorway in the UK, several deaths here over the years, they have a 50 mph limit for part of the section, yet still deaths and injuiries occur at this spot. cant understand it,

There are (supposedly) average speed cameras on this section of the M60 so anyone travelling in excess of 50mph should set alarm bells ringing. I travel this route regularly and most drivers obey the speed limit on this section, but there are always those who think they know better. Surely the Police can ascertain what speed the Volvo was travelling at from the average speed cameras, but as the poor guy is dead there is little point in pursuing the matter.

From the report it sounds like the crash happened before the dangerous bend and before the 50 mph speed limit as between junctions 24 and 25 it's a completely straight motorway with not one bend!!!

In fact, there has only ever been 1 fatal accident on the bad bend (the idea behind the 50mph limit) the accidents have always happened just prior to it or further up near denton roundabout... And this one sounds like it happened just there where there has been a number of accidents, 1 being where the helicopter landed recently to save some young lads life...

You'd think they would put some crash barriers there because if you go off the motorway there you are straight down a very steep ditch and will cause serious injury if not death... so yet again, speed isn't the factor.. it's the design of the road and surrounding embankments!

The weather could have something to do with this terrible accident on Sunday morning. The rain had been heavy and persistant since early Saturday evening. There would have been a lot of surface water. Had the driver not been familar with that stretch of the motorway he could very easily have gone into a skid at 40 mph.

There a specific section of this motorway just prior to where the 50mph zone commences, near to where it passes over Reddish Vale, that collects water, particularly in the outside lane. I hope this was not a factor in this incident, but I cannot beleive the Highways Agency do not improve the drainage.

On one occasion after a particulary heavy deluge the whole carriage was flooded at this point from the hard shoulder to the central reservation , it must have been in excess of 150mm deep water. any unsuspecting motorist could easily have lost control. Fortunately it was in peak hour and the volume of traffic was sufficent to keep speeds down and draw attention to the problem.

Highways Agency: pull your finger out.

robcnash woodley, you are incorrect there has been at least 5 fatal accidents on the bredbury bend in the last 7 years, to me who drives down that stretch a lot there is something wrong with the view, to me the train bridge plays games with your eyes plus then you are met with a deceiving bend, however 50mph should really calm these measures down.
