A BUMPER turnout is expected as athletes limber up for the Offerton 10km Park Race.

It begins at Stockport Harriers' stadium, Woodbank Park, tonight (July 1) with the starting pistol fired at 7.30pm.

Organiser Tony Ward says more than 140 people have already registered - twice as many as last year - and entries on the night are set to swell numbers to well over 200.

Anyone wishing to take part should turn up before 7.30pm, with entry costing £1. An under 16s Young Athlete Mile will begin at 7.35pm.

The course winds through Woodbank and vernon parks, finishing at the stadium, and is open to all people - whatever their ability.

A ticket will be issued to everyone who crosses the finish line and then used for a spot prize draw.

Tony said: "The route is traffic free, in a nice setting and runners will be well supported so it should be a great event. You don't have to be a serious runner to have a go, we take everyone from elite athletes to fun runners."
