OAP in 'racist' pond attack

A 76-YEAR-OLD Asian man was pushed into a pond in what police say was a racially-motivated attack.

The attackers shouted a volley of abuse at the pensioner before pushing him into the water at Vernon Park, in Stockport.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment to his injuries, including cuts to his head and legs.

Detective Inspector Michael Fenton said: "This was a horrific incident, where an elderly man was attacked purely because of his race.

"This type of behaviour is unacceptable and will not be tolerated."

Three men, aged 20, 23 and 28, have been arrested on suspicion of racially aggravated assault causing grievous bodily harm and remain in police custody for questioning.

Anyone with information should call police on 0161 856 9987 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
