A MOTORCYCLIST has died following a crash at a Bramhall accident blackspot.
Richard Fitzgerald, who was 39, and from Deneside Crescent, Hazel Grove, died after he lost control of his bike on the Manchester Airport linkroad, Bramhall on Sunday.
Police believe he hit the kerb as he drove his black Suzuki GSF 600 onto the roundabout and was sent crashing, suffering fatal injuries.
He was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital just after 11pm, but was later pronounced dead.
Brian Cartledge, who lives opposite the roundabout, says traffic calming measures are urgently needed to prevent even more accidents, with many vehicles - particularly those leaving the linkroad’s dual carriageway - travelling too fast.
However, there has been no suggestion Mr Fitzgerald was travelling at speed.
Mr Cartledge said: "Safety measures are needed whether it be cameras, rumble strips or other traffic calming measures. They would benefit us but more importantly they would save lives."
Police have appealed for witnesses to the accident.
Anyone with information can contact the traffic police on 856 6173.
