Ref justice for Mystics

BASKETBALL: MANCHESTER Mystics have lost their appeal against their 75-73 play-off defeat at Nottingham Wildcats.

Mystics' coach Sergio Lara-Bercial had asked for the game to be replayed after it took two decisions to rule out Kristy Lavin's late basket with the score at 60-60.

With Georgia Jones, Charlotte Stoddart and Sabrina Sanchez all missing, Mystics began strongly before Nottingham found their rhythm to lead 21-19 at the end of the opening quarter.

The match was level at 31-31 at the break, after which Nottingham opened up a 47-44 lead going into the final period.

Once Lavin's basket was ruled out, it took two periods of overtime before the home side eventually came out winners.

With a weakened side and against one of the strongest teams in the Division, this was one of the Mystics' best performances of the season and delighted their coach in the process.
